A Romantic Wedding at Villa di Lilliano in Tuscany

Sarah and Samuel’s wedding at Villa Medicea di Lilliano brought together a small circle of family for a day filled with emotion, laughter and understated elegance. On 25 May 2026, the villa’s gardens, frescoed passageway and panoramic terrace became the setting for their intimate celebration near Florence.

As a wedding photographer in Tuscany, I love photographing celebrations where the surroundings and the relationships between people have equal space in the story. Here, the views across the olive groves were beautiful, but so were the smaller moments: a helping hand during preparations, Samuel’s expression as Sarah approached, and the laughter shared around one dinner table.

Getting Ready in Florence and at the Villa

The story began in two locations. Samuel prepared at Residenza Castiglioni in Florence, while Sarah got ready at Villa Medicea di Lilliano.

Samuel’s white dinner jacket and black bow tie gave his look a classic elegance. The photographs of his preparations move between quiet portraits and relaxed exchanges with his family, capturing both the details of his outfit and the people beside him.

At the villa, Sarah’s flowing gown, long veil and white bouquet complemented the setting beautifully. Soft window light and the colours of the interiors created a gentle backdrop for her bridal portraits.

Before the ceremony, the villa offered several different settings for photographs: the entrance framed by climbing greenery, the garden paths and the frescoed passageway. Each brought a different sense of scale, from close portraits to wider compositions that placed Sarah within the architecture.

An Emotional Garden Ceremony

The ceremony took place outdoors, with the villa behind the guests and the garden opening towards the surrounding countryside.

Its intimate scale made the reactions of those present an essential part of the photographs. Guests watched beneath white parasols, close enough to share every smile and emotional pause.

Sarah and Samuel had chosen to see each other for the first time at the ceremony. Samuel’s reaction as she approached became one of the most expressive moments of the day, followed by smiles, tears and laughter as they stood together.

Family was central to their plans, with relatives travelling from as far as Australia to celebrate with them. The photographs reflect that closeness, from the ceremony itself to the joyful group portrait afterwards.

Wedding Portraits Among the Gardens and Frescoes

Sarah and Samuel wanted a combination of documentary photographs and classic portraits, with the landscape playing a visible part in their images.

That balance shaped their couple photographs. Some frames bring attention to an embrace or a glance; others step back to include the villa, the garden’s stone fountain and the olive-covered hills beyond.

The aerial photographs add another perspective, showing the couple within the geometry of the gardens and revealing how the estate sits within the Tuscan countryside.

Inside the frescoed passageway, the atmosphere changes. Painted walls, arched doorways and softer light create a more intimate setting. On the terrace, the open sky and tall cypresses give the portraits a spacious, distinctly Tuscan character.

Throughout these photographs, there is room for movement: walking hand in hand, turning together, laughing and taking a moment to enjoy being married.

An Intimate Dinner on the Terrace

Dinner was arranged around a single table on the panoramic terrace. White flowers and a simple, elegant table setting kept the attention on the people gathered together and the view surrounding them.

As the light softened, the terrace became the setting for speeches, raised glasses and shared laughter. These photographs carry much of the personality of the celebration: the couple’s reactions, family members speaking and guests leaning into conversations.

With everyone seated together, the reception had the closeness of a family dinner, framed by the landscape of Tuscany.

Golden Light and the Wedding Cake

Later, Sarah and Samuel stepped away for another short series of portraits. The low evening sun filtered through the olive trees, bringing warmer tones and a softer mood to the photographs.

Their white outfits caught the light against the green surroundings, while close embraces and easy smiles gave this final portrait sequence a relaxed feeling.

The story closes with the wedding cake, a kiss and family gathered around them at the villa’s entrance—an affectionate ending to a celebration centred on being together.

Wedding Photography at Villa Medicea di Lilliano

This wedding brought together many of the elements I enjoy most in my work: emotional documentary moments, classic portraits and photographs that give the Tuscan setting a meaningful place in the story.

For Sarah and Samuel, that meant a collection moving between the grandeur of the villa and the intimacy of their celebration. The landscape provides the setting; their connection and the people around them give the photographs their meaning.
